Welcome!
Welcome to Prince of Peace's web site. It is my hope that
this site helps you to understand more about Prince of
Peace. Take time to look through our web site and discover
the history, mission and activities that are going on here.
We live in a time in which I believe people are searching for
friendships and relationships. In a world in which more and
more people seem alienated from one another, Prince of
Peace is a community of believers that encourages people to
come and be a part of the family of God.
Prince of Peace Church has been a community for myself
and my family to be received and accepted. Prince of Peace
can be a place for you also to belong. We are a church
family that continues to walk together hand in hand with
one another and with God. You are welcomed to join hands
with us as you search and walk with God.
We are a church for both followers of Christ and those who
are seeking God. It is our sincere desire to make you feel
welcomed when you visit us.
Once again, welcome!
Larry Tyner, Pastor

Who We Are
Prince of Peace Church of the Brethren
Brethren History
The Church of the Brethren was founded
in Schwarzenau, Germany in 1708 by a
small group of believers under the
leadership of Alexander Mack. This small
band of Christians gathered under the
simple elements of Bible Study and prayer
which created a desire to follow the faith
and practices of the New Testament. So,
the beginnings of the Brethren movement
started in the Eder River when eight souls
were baptized. More information about
Brethren history and other information
can be found at www.brethren.org

Prince of Peace History
Prince of Peace's beginnings commenced
in the mid 1950's with an urgency to bring
a Brethren congregation to the Kettering
area. Prince of Peace first began meeting
at the Merchant's Bank Building in the
Town and Country Shopping Center for
Sunday morning services. Charter Day for
Prince of Peace was held on Pentecost
Sunday, May 20th, 1956 at the Fairmont
Presbyterian Church. On September 14rh,
1958, the current church building was
dedicated. In 1992, an expansion (a new
Sanctuary and Gathering Area) was
dedicated to the glory of God!
Over the years, Prince of Peace has been
a place of service to the local community
and the world. Men and women have been
called to Prince of Peace to serve as
pastors and servants throughout the
United States and around the world.
Prince of Peace is currently active on a
global scale with Heifer Project
International. On a local level, Prince of
Peace is active in serving the people of
Dayton through Inner-faith Hospitality
Network (providing shelter for the
homeless of Greene County) and serving
breakfast at the House of Bread.

Beliefs & Practices
The New Testament continues to remain as
the standard for belief and Christian
growth. Prayer has continued to be
incorporated into a personal relationship
with God and commitment to Jesus Christ.
Baptism has stood as marking the
beginning of a new life in Christ.
The Church of the Brethren is one of three
historic peace churches working to
establish harmony among all peoples and
between all nations. Along with
peacemaking, other New Testament ideals
that are practiced at Prince of Peace
include, the service of feet washing as part
of a Love Feast Celebration on the
Thursday evening before Easter.
Communion is served on a quarterly basis
during worship. Prince of Peace practices
the rite of anointing. People may come
with their need, whether it be physical,
emotional or spiritual seeking God's
wholeness and wellness for their lives.
